Indian Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra arrived in Sri Lanka on Monday for a brief visit aimed at preparing for the upcoming state visit of the Sri Lankan President to India. During his visit, Kwatra met with key Sri Lankan officials to discuss bilateral cooperation.

During his visit, Kwatra held high-level meetings with the President and the Foreign Minister.

He also met with his counterpart, the Foreign Secretary of Sri Lanka. In addition, he had the opportunity to meet with several ministers during a luncheon.

The main objective of Kwatra's visit was to lay the groundwork for the forthcoming visit of the Sri Lankan President to India. 

The discussions with the Sri Lankan leadership and the Foreign Ministry focused on forging a positive transformation in the bilateral relationship between the two countries.

Particular attention was given to identifying key areas of partnership that could be progressed before the visit, as well as understanding the priorities of the Sri Lankan leadership. 

Kwatra also shared the perspective of Indian leadership on the strength of the relationship and various elements of cooperation in economic partnership.

“Our objective is to ensure that the visit of the Sri Lankan President to India is a huge success,” Kwatra stated. 

He expressed confidence in the visit's outcome, emphasizing the warm welcome that awaits the Sri Lankan President in India. 

Kwatra highlighted the strong support and cooperation between the two nations throughout Sri Lanka's challenges over the past year.

“We eagerly look forward to Excellency the President's visit to India and aim to make it a success for both his visit and our relationship,” Kwatra said in a statement to the media.

The visit of the Sri Lankan President to India is expected to further strengthen the ties between the two neighboring countries. The focus will be on enhancing economic cooperation and exploring opportunities for collaboration across various sectors.

The dates for the state visit are yet to be announced, but both sides are committed to ensuring a fruitful visit that will pave the way for closer partnership and mutual growth.
